Altar Servers - Youth

CHRISTIAN FORMATION
Catechist **
Catechists share their faith with the children of our parish for 23 sessions a year. Training is provided. Requires 1 ½ hours of class preparation and 1 hour of teaching the lesson.

Vacation Bible School **
Vacation Bible School provides a one-week program for grade school age children during the summer, incorporating both social and religious related activities. Volunteers are needed to plan and implement these activities. Training is provided.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word **
Children hear an age-appropriate proclamation of God’s Word and participate in an interactive homily. Teaching materials and supplies are provided. Adult and teen volunteers are needed to help at the 9:30 am Mass at St. Vincent’s and 11:30 am Mass at St. Mary’s. Training is provided.

RCIA Core Group **
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is the process for receiving adults into the Church. Parishioners are invited to participate as members of the Core Group, which helps in planning and guiding this process. They meet Wednesday evenings, September through the Easter Season.

Friday Night Bible Study
Parishioners gather in a small group setting to come to a deeper understanding of how the Holy Bible relates to the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church, and how to apply biblical teachings to everyday situations. The group meets in Rogers Hall every Friday evening from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Women’s Bible Study Group
Meet weekly using the Little Rock Scripture Study, which leads to a greater understanding of the Bible and awareness of God’s presence in Scripture.

Holy Hour Adoration
Parishioners meet every Sunday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at St. Mary’s Church, to pray and meditate in the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

YOUTH MINISTRY
Parish Youth Group- Jr/Sr High **
Junior High and Senior High Youth Group serve youth from grades 6-12. Many opportunities are available for people who are enthusiastic in working with youth, enjoy a good rapport with young people, and have a desire to bring teens closer to Christ. Such opportunities include Core team members, fundraising, social gatherings, liturgy, retreat leaders, and service opportunities.

The Youth Ministry Council is a consultative group that helps plan youth ministry in our parish. Through this group there are innumerable opportunities to serve the youth of our parish as adult volunteers at meetings, events and projects.

Boy Scouts
Participate in leadership and support positions for parish sponsored Troop 91. Promote and teach ideals of citizenship, leadership, moral values, and duty to God and country for boys age 11-18 years old. Must attend Youth Protection Training and go through a background check.

CYO Sports- Girls and Boys Basketball **
CYO Sports ministry provides youth from grades 5 thru 8 with a place to engage in physical activity and promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and Christian values. The girl’s program runs from August through November, and the boy’s program runs from mid-November through February. This group is growing and needs volunteers to form a CYO Basketball Committee for more support.

Parish Soccer Sports Committee **
Annual soccer clinic begins the 3rd week of August for one week, Monday through Friday in the evening. Volunteers coach and help to work with sponsoring organizations in the community.

Finance Council
The Finance Council assists in the administration of the financial affairs of the parish by offering counsel and guidance to the pastoral administrator of the parish. The council is a consultative body advising on stewardship of parish financial resources and helps discern the direction and priorities that will advance the mission and life of the parish.

Parish Pastoral Council
The Parish Pastoral Council is a representative group of parishioners that serves as the consultative body to the Pastoral Staff for parish priorities, direction, and policies. Members are nominated in the Spring and serve for a 3-year term. Meetings are the fourth Monday of each month from September to June.

Stewardship Ministry
This ministry promotes the concept of gratefulness for the gifts we have received, and the responsibility of sharing those gifts with others. The group organizes the annual Stewardship commitment process and other activities to promote stewardship of time, talent and treasure.

Bulletin Committee
This Ministry works with the staff to coordinate and administer the layout and content of the bulletin on a weekly basis. Knights of Columbus
Catholic men, 18 and older, seeking to live their faith through prayer and action, meet the second and fourth Thursdays of every month at 7pm in the basement of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Some annual events are: AMBA blood Work Program, Basketball Free Throw Competition, and C&B Drive. Financial support is provided to Catholic and worthy secular organizations as well as seminarians seeking to join the Catholic priesthood.

Transportation Ministers

Homebound Visitation Ministers
Volunteers provide opportunities for communion, prayer and visitation to patients at hospitals/nursing homes and/or individual residences during the week as requested by the Pastoral Staff. 1-2 hours weekly on Sunday mornings. Training is provided and Diocesan background check required.

Health Ministry of the Southern Tier
They are an Agency which offers free medical care to those who are in need. They are staffed by medical professionals and caring volunteers. Currently they have offices in Bath and Corning. The Health Ministry for Corning is located at 300 Civic Center Pl. Corning. Their services are confidential.
